How to Clean Your Smartwatch and Band
Your smartwatch sits against your skin all day, collecting sweat, oil, and dead skin. A buildup can irritate your skin and dull the sensors, so a regular clean keeps it comfortable and accurate.
Cleaning the band
- Silicone and nylon: wash with mild soap and water, rinse, and dry
- Leather: wipe with a damp cloth, never soak
- Metal: wipe with a soft cloth, occasionally polish
The band is where most buildup happens, especially after workouts. A silicone band can be washed weekly; other materials need gentler treatment.
Cleaning the watch
Wipe the watch body and the sensor on the back with a soft, dry or lightly damp cloth. Keeping the back sensor clean improves heart-rate accuracy, since oil and residue interfere with the reading.
What to avoid
Don't submerge the watch unless it's rated for it, avoid harsh cleaners, and dry everything completely before wearing. Moisture trapped under the band causes skin irritation.
Wash silicone bands weekly and wipe the watch and sensor regularly. It keeps the sensors accurate and prevents the skin irritation that comes from a dirty band.
