Best Waterproof Phone Cases for the Beach and Pool

Most phone cases resist a splash at best. A true waterproof case seals the phone completely so it survives submersion, which matters at the pool, the beach, and on a boat.

Read the IP rating

Look for IPX8, which means the case is rated for continuous submersion, not just a splash. IPX7 means temporary submersion up to a meter. A case with only splash resistance won't protect your phone if it falls in.

What to look for

  • An IPX8 rating for real underwater protection
  • Sealed port covers for the charging and speaker openings
  • A clear window that keeps the screen and camera usable

Test before you trust it

Before taking a waterproof case near water, test it with a paper towel inside and submerge it. A faulty seal or a case that wasn't closed fully is the most common cause of water damage.

Buy an IPX8-rated case and test it first. For occasional beach use, a waterproof pouch is a cheaper alternative, but a sealed case offers better protection and usability.
